UAE weather: Dubai RTA suspends intercity bus services to Ajman and Sharjah amid heavy rains

Date:

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has suspended intercity bus services to and from Ajman and Sharjah until further notice due to ongoing adverse weather conditions.

In a statement posted on X, the RTA said: “Intercity bus services to and from Ajman and Sharjah are suspended until further notice, due to the current weather conditions. Thank you for your cooperation.” The update was shared via the authority’s official account, @rta_dubai.

The suspension comes as heavy rain continues to affect parts of the UAE, prompting authorities to urge commuters to avoid travel on affected routes and to monitor official channels for updates on service resumptions.

The RTA said it has intensified operations in response to warnings issued by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), which forecast continued rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, hail, strong winds, blowing dust and rough sea conditions.

According to the authority, round-the-clock monitoring, field teams and rapid response units have been deployed across Dubai. Emergency and Crisis teams are managing incidents from the Command Control Centre, while a joint Flood Management Room has been activated to address rainwater accumulation and maintain operational readiness across the road network.

The RTA has also been providing real-time updates to the public, sharing images and videos on social media showing efforts to manage flooded roads, clear waterlogged areas and assist commuters during the severe weather.

Dubai Police have separately issued a safety advisory, urging road users to exercise caution as heavy rain, strong winds, thunderstorms, lightning and occasional hail continue to reduce visibility. Authorities advised residents to follow official instructions, avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert to changing conditions.

Commuters are encouraged to stay informed through official RTA and government channels for the latest updates on transport services and road conditions as the weather situation develops.
